Halloween Decorating Ideas

If you are holding a Halloween party you will need some Halloween decorating ideas.  Yes you will want to dress up and your guests will come suitably attired.  Now you need somewhere just right to gather.

Why not make your own hideous decorations?  For one thing it will be a lot less expensive plus it will give you a great deal of satisfaction.  A word of warning here – do start early enough so that you can enjoy the part as well.

Let’s have a look at some Halloween decorating ideas. These should start you off so that you can add some others as they pop into your head.

Halloween Tombstones

Make some tombstones to place in the front garden or on the porch.  The best material to use for this is Polystyrene.  This is normally used in packaging large objects.  You will get some when you have delivery of a new television or washing machine and so on.  If you need more then you will probably find some at the local refuse point.

Draw a rough outline shape and then cut the polystyrene.  Doesn’t matter if it is a bit ragged it will just look like weathering.  Give it a quick spray over using a spray can of light grey paint.  When dry use a marker to write the details of a persons death and so on.

Halloween bats

Use card, stiff paper or polystyrene.  Mark out the shape of the bat and cut it out.

Spray with black paint and hang them just at the level that they will brush against the hair of the taller guests

Halloween foliage

If possible go out and collect twigs and small branches in the woods and hedgerows. Those with autumnal leaves attached would be especially good.  Use these bits and pieces to place around the room.  Be careful if you decorate your chandeliers.

Monsters

Spooky entrance

Get some light mesh material such as net curtaining.  Make it look grubby.  Hang it across the entrance to the house so that people need to push through it to get in.

Attach cut out spiders and bats and so on.  Think about making it look too revolting for people to gain entrance!

Halloween specimen jars

Get some old glass jars fill with coloured water and suspend plastic beetles and body parts in each.  Place on tables around the room and drape with ragged grey gauze to look like spiders’ webs.

Severed hand

If you are serving punch get a clean plastic glove.  Fill the glove with ice and close the end to keep the ice in.  Pop the “hand” in the punch and watch it float.

Halloween pumpkin

Purchase a pumpkin in the superstore, scoop out the flesh and cut out eyes, nose and mouth.  Place a candle inside.  Put the pumpkin where it can be seen but not knocked over.  You can make several of these to have both indoors and out.

Fake blood

Make some realistic blood by using the following mix: one cup of corn syrup, one tablespoon of water, two tablespoons of red food colouring and one tablespoon of yellow food colouring.  Mix well together.  This is then ready to use – carefully.

I hope that all these Halloween decorating ideas will help you to get the atmosphere going.
